“Break down” the frequency of visits
von Olaf Brandt
How often do users visit your website? In our example, an average of 2.17 times in the last month.
But: Are there also users who visit more than 5 times? Which pages do these frequent visitors look at? How many of them are encouraged to return by the newsletter? Do frequent visitors convert more than one-time or infrequent visitors?
To answer these questions, you need to “break down” the frequency of visits. This is done using segments of the type Across all visits.
A complete segment definition looks like this, for example:
If you add the created segments to a report, the breakdown of visit frequency appears under the Visitors key figure.
Additional dimensions can now be added to the report, such as page name or medium. It is also exciting to see which visit frequency segment achieves the most conversions.
Of course, tracking the frequency of visits only works if etracker cookies are activated with consent. You have to be a little careful with the evaluation of the segment with visit count 1. The segment with only one visit automatically includes all users who return on subsequent days but reject statistical cookies.
If you only want to analyze the “real” one-time visitors, you can optionally add the cookie consent condition:
The behavioral conditions for segmentation can thus be further differentiated, for example according to visit chains with and without conversion. In any case, the segment function offers a valuable opportunity to “break down” averages and thus gain deeper insights.
